Secret gardens
Practical
Free Secrets Gardens Guide available at the Tourist Office.
Devised in 2002 by the Green Spaces department of the city administration, the Jardins Secrets are an original creation designed to highlight areas which have no particular designation in the old town.
Inspired by the gardens that were found in castles and abbeys of the Middle Ages, various topics related to the golden age of medieval Cahors are evoked
- The Moorish Garden is a haven of peace inspired by Moorish palaces of Andalusia and Morocco;
- The Herbularium is a garden nestled at the foot of the cathedral, full of medicinal plants;
- The Courtil des Moines shows vegetables eaten in the middle ages, grown in chestnut hurdle-bordered plots;
- The "Garden of the Witch and the Dragon" tells stories of demonic plants and legends...
Remarkable gardens, twenty five spaces maintained in an eco-responsible way for which they have won numerous awards, making our town green and beautiful. Of these, the Jardins Secrets received the "Remarkable Garden" award from the Ministry of Culture in 2006.
This label indicates to the public the gardens whose design, plant species and maintenance are of very high quality, be they private or public, protected monuments or street sites.
